MANILA – The Philippine Azkals have made history again, as they are now just one win away from lifting the AFC Challenge Cup trophy. The Azkals defeated host team Maldives, 3-2, in an emotionally-charged match at the National Stadium in Male to advance to the finals of the tournament for the first time ever. Striker Phil Younghusband scored his 36th international goal in the 19th minute to push the Azkals ahead, 1-0, but the Maldivians got a lucky break in the 36th minute as the Azkals conceded a goal for the first time. Jerry Lucena was quick to respond, however, linking up with Daisuke Sato just a couple of minutes later to give the lead back to the Filipinos. Maldives equalized in the 66th minute, but Chris Greatwich provided the heroics for the Azkals in extra time, converting a pass from Patrick Reichelt in the 104th minute for the go-ahead goal. -- Mornings @ ANC, May 28, 2014.
