MANILA – The Department of Education (DepEd) said it is on track to make classrooms ready for the opening of classes on June 2. DepEd spokesperson Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali said classroom repairs and clean-up efforts are underway through the Brigada Eskwela program. Umali added hundreds of temporary classrooms are being built in areas affected by typhoon Yolanda following specifications set by the Department of Public Works and Highways. He noted that the DepEd consulted the Mines and Geosciences Bureau on no-build zones well before the June 30 deadline set by rehabilitation czar Panfilo Lacson. Umali said the DepEd hopes to finish construction by the end of the calendar year. - ANC
