Ferrer, Nishikori through at Madrid Open

Spain’s David Ferrer beat compatriot Albert Ramos at the Madrid Open Masters, but the fifth seed took nearly three hours to do it. Ferrer, 32 and ranked fifth in the world, had 12 break points but only converted five of them. Ramos, 26 and ranked 115th, has never beaten his compatriot, who had a bye in the first round. Meanwhile, tenth seed Kei Nishikori of Japan beat Spain’s Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. The 24-year-old Nishikori won all of his service points while Garcia-Lopez managed less than half. -- Mornings @ ANC, May 7, 2014.
