Murray outlasts Ferrer to win Sony Open
MANILA, Philippines – Britain’s Andy Murray defeated Spain’s David Ferrer in a grueling Sony Open final to move above Roger Federer and finally place second in the world rankings. Murray was far from his best, but was able to survive a scare in the third set, which was littered with errors as neither player could hold serve in the first six games. But the gripping duel at Key Biscayne in Miami was Murray’s to win, as he recorded his ninth victory in a Masters 1000 series event. The last time Murray was ranked second was back in 2009, when Federer was the top player. Mornings @ ANC, April 1, 2013
