Wawrinka fights back, beats Federer

Stanislas Wawrinka sent a clear message about his French Open ambitions by beating Roger Federer in an all-Swiss Monte Carlo Masters final. Third-seed and Australian Open champion Wawrinka recovered from a loss in the opening set to claim his first masters title on the Monte Carlo clay. The victory came just six weeks before the May 25th Grand Slam tournament in Paris. Fourth-seed Federer was his brilliant old self for almost an hour, but the 17-time Grand Slam champion was eventually overwhelmed by Wawrinka’s power. -- Mornings @ ANC, April 21, 2014.
