Ombudsman urged: Act faster on pork scam
Political analyst and Ateneo School of Government Dean Antonio La Viña believes the importance of today's Senate inquiry into the pork barrel scam lies in determining if Dennis Cunanan is telling the truth or not. Speaking to ANC, La Viña said Cunanan needs to establish first that he is a credible witness before he can convince the public to believe in his claims. "From the affidavit I've seen that he actually washes his hands and says 'I'm not guilty of anything. I just did my job and it was a good job that I did.' That's the problem I think. So you have to determine the credibility first and then if the credibility is determined, then the question is how does he help in the prosecution," he said. Meanwhile, Peachy Rallonza-Bretaña, the organizer of last year's Million People March, is hoping that the Ombudsman will soon file charges against the accused. "With all the Senate hearings happening and with all the whistleblowers coming out, when will they start acting on it? It's a very big question. Dean La Viña said maybe it's going to be soon. I hope so," she said. "The longer it takes for the Ombudsman to act on these cases, then the longer the justice is delayed. Really, that's the general sentiment," she added.
