Norway, Netherlands top leaderboard at Sochi
  • 5 years ago
In the Sochi Winter Games, Norway still sits atop the medal standings with seven medals in total, two of them gold. Netherlands is in second place, with two golds, one silver, and one bronze. The United States is currently in third place, with two golds and two bronzes. Dutch skater Irene Wust edged out defending champion Martina Sablikova to wrest back the Olympic 3,000-meter speed skating title. Wust clocked four minutes, 0.34 seconds over the seven and a half laps at the Adler Arena. Meanwhile, Switzerland’s Dario Colonya picked the perfect time to rediscover his fitness and form as he surged to victory in skiathlon. Colonya, who earlier this week was still walking with a splint on an injured right ankle, attacked with less than a kilometer left in the 30-km race to take home the medal. Jenny Jones’ breakthrough Olympic slopestyle snowboarding bronze medal may be the start of something big for Britain at the Sochi Games. This is Britain’s first medal in a snow event. At 33-years-old, Jones was the oldest contestant in the final, but her experience shone through as she produced her best run of the week. -- Mornings @ ANC, February 10, 2014.
