'Basyang' weakens into an LPA, leaves PAR

MANILA, Philippines – Tropical depression “Basyang” weakened into a low pressure area later Saturday night then exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Sunday morning. In its wake, “Basyang” left three people dead – two of them in Cebu and one in Southern Leyte. It also affected more than 42,000 people in nine provinces of Region 6, 7, 8 and CARAGA. Thousands of passengers who were bound for provinces in the Visayas and Mindanao were also stranded. Over in Tacloban City, which is still reeling from Super Typhoon Yolanda, residents who left their temporary shelters due to “Basyang” have already returned.
