Lawyer blasts harsh treatment vs Napoles

MANILA - The lawyer of businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles on Wednesday criticized the harsh treatment of her client while incarcerated in Fort Santo Domingo in Santa Rosa, Laguna. Lawyer Lorna Kapunan criticized the strict rules limiting the visits of lawyers and relatives to Napoles. She also lambasted why Napoles is locked in her detention cell at night. She said detention is aggravating Napoles' claustrophobia or fear of confined spaces. The lawyer earlier criticized the installation of CCTV cameras at Fort Santo Domingo. She said Napoles should not be treated like a criminal since she has yet to be convicted of any crime. Napoles is accused of setting up fake non-government organizations to act as conduits of billions of pesos in lawmakers' priority development assistance funds.
