US, Canada urge China to respect ‘one country, two systems’, put Hong Kong protests on trade talks table

North American leaders have weighed in after anti-government protesters called for international support at a mass rally in Hong Kong on August 16, 2019. US President Donald Trump warned China that a violent crackdown in Hong Kong would jeapordise hopes of a trade deal. Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged Beijing to respect its ‘one country, two systems’ commitments.
