Hong Kongers are nothing if not resourceful, and the same seems to go for their protesters.
These young activists have perfected a technique for extinguishing tear gas with a road cone, some water, BBQ tongs and quick teamwork.
It's the latest technical novelty amongst protesters seen as having a more tech-savvy approach to countering the police, from widespread use of gas masks to shields made from luggage cases.
Not everyone at the protests is so sophisticated or as defensively-minded though. A different young man is also seen throwing a missile at police.
