Puerto Rico Governor
Expected to Resign
Thousands have protested
in San Juan over the past
week, calling for Governor
Ricardo Rosselló's resignation.
They were sparked when several
offensive group messages between
Rosselló and his close advisors were published
by Puerto Rico's Center for Investigative Journalism.
The messages showed
disrespect to Hurricane Maria victims,
and displayed misogyny and homophobia.
The Governor's
Chief of Staff
resigned on Tuesday.
In addition, the FBI made two
arrests of former Rosselló administration
officials, due to its federal corruption investigation.
Demonstrators are also protesting
the slow recovery from Maria,
high poverty rates, debt and
ongoing government corruption.
Puerto Rico Secretary of
Justice Wanda Vasquez is
expected to replace Rosselló.
