Michelle Obama has criticized President Trump's inauguration, saying the crowd "was not reflective of the country."
During an onstage interview at the Essence Festival in New Orleans Saturday night, the former first lady spoke about how hectic and emotional her family's last day was in the White House.
Obama continued: "Then to sit at that inauguration and to look around at a crowd that was not reflective of the country--it was just such the opposite."
"During Barack's inauguration, we made sure that the crowd looked like all of America," she added. "And I had to sit in that audience--one of a handful of people of color--and then listen to that speech and all that I had held on to for 8 years...it was a lot emotionally."
This wasn't the first time Michelle Obama has weighed in on Trump's inauguration.
"Someone from Barack's administration might have said that the optics there were bad, that what the public saw didn't reflect the president's reality or ideals," Obama reportedly writes in her memoir, Becoming. "But in this case, maybe it did. Realizing it, I made my own optic adjustment: I stopped even trying to smile."
