President Trump on Wednesday defended the cost of his July 4 event.

President Trump on Wednesday defended the cost of his Fourth of July event. "The cost of our great Salute to America tomorrow will be very little compared to what it is worth," he wrote on Twitter. "We own the planes, we have the pilots, the airport is right next door (Andrews), all we need is the fuel. We own the tanks and all. Fireworks are donated by two of the greats. Nice!" The day prior, the Washington Post reported that "according to two individuals familiar" with the situation, "the National Park Service is diverting nearly $2.5 million in entrance and recreation fees primarily intended to improve parks across the country to cover costs associated with President Trump's Independence Day celebration Thursday on the Mall."  The publication also notes that the Park Service money will cover only a fraction of the event expenses. The White House has not released estimates of those costs.
