December 8th, 2012. In the finale of their legendary rivalry, Manny Pacquiao aka “Pacman” and “Dinamita” Juan Manuel Marquez would settle the score once and for all in “Fight of the Decade” to close the chapter of their historic series of fights. And for the 1st time in 4 fights, no world titles were on the line.

Pacquiao was ranked the No. 2 P4P by Ring Magazine, while Marquez was ranked No. 6 by the same publication.

Prefight records; Pacquiao 54(38)-9-2, Marquez 54(39)-6-1.

Pacquiao’s notable wins up to this point include Chatchai Sasakul, Jorge Eliecer Julio, Lehlo Ledwaba, Jorge Solis, Oscar Larios, Hector Velazquez, David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, Ricky Hatton, Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez (2x), Erik Morales (2x) & Marco Antonio Barrera (2x) while Marquez had victories over meaningful oppositions in Alfred Kotey, Agapito Sanchez, Daniel Jimenez, Manuel Medina, Robbie Peden, Derrick Gainer, Victor Polo, Michael Katsidis, Rocky Juarez, Marco Antonio Barrera, Joel Casamayor, Orlando Salido & Juan Diaz (2x).

The first 2 rounds were highly competitive with 1 man arguably winning a round each. However, in the 3rd round a huge shocker occurred when Marquez knocked Pacquiao down with a thunderous right hand!

It was the first time in 39 rounds of their rivalry that Pacquiao was floored, and Pacquiao was last knocked down (officially) 13 years ago in 1999 against Medgoen Singsurat in a WBC Flyweight Championship fight.

While Marco Antonio Barrera and Shane Mosley were both awarded a knockdown of Pacquiao each in 2003 and 2011 respectively, but neither were legitimate as shown in replays.

In the 5th round, Pacquiao would even up the score with his patented straight left hand and proceeded to hurt Marquez badly but a game Marquez fought back with unbelievable courage in one of the best rounds of 2012! At the end of the round, Marquez was a bloody mess with Pacquiao ahead 47-46 in all 3 scorecards.

In the 6th frame, Pacquiao hurt Marquez again; landing many power shots but as the round came to a close, Pacquiao while cornering Marquez recklessly lunged forward attempting to land his left hand shot; Marquez seized the opportunity to counter with his patented right hand with perfect precision and timing - just as Pacquiao was moving towards Marquez and caught him flush.

Pacquiao was out cold on the canvas as Kenny Bayless stopped the fight without counting.

For the first time in 4 bouts, a winner was crowned with no disputes or controversies.

This fight received the following accolades by Ring Magazine:

1) Round of the Year (Round 5)
2) Fight of the Year
3) Fighter of the Year (Juan Manuel Marquez)
4) Knockout of the Year
