Unemployment rate data not comparable with previous surveys due to new innovations, says chief statistician Pravin Srivastava

Unemployment in India also peaked to a 45 year high in FY18, according to the labour ministry. Overall in India, unemployment stood at 6.1 percent of the total workforce in FY18.CNBC-TV18's Sapna Das spoke with Pravin Srivastava, the chief statistician and he said that the unemployment rate is not comparable with previous similar surveys - this as the sample emphasizes on level of education in a household where at least one person should have studied secondary education or above - the earlier employment surveys were based on monthly per capita expenditure.
