Anti-Semitic Attacks Reach
Historic Level in the US In 2018 there were a total of 1,879 anti-semitic attacks
across the country, a 99 percent increase versus 2015. It was the third-highest year on record
since the Anti-Defamation League (ADL)
began tracking such data in 1979. October 27, 2018, also marked the deadliest attack
on the Jewish community in the history of the U.S., when a white supremacist killed
11 people at the Tree of Life synagogue
in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Of all the recorded incidents in 2018,
13 percent were tied to extremist groups or
individuals who believed extremist ideology. Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of
the ADL, via statement. Anti-Semitic incidents were
recorded in all but four U.S. states, with the highest numbers occurring in states with
large Jewish populations such as California,
New Jersey, Massachusetts and New York.
