Trump Says It's 'Fake News' He Discussed Ending Military Drills During Kim Summit
  • 5 years ago
President Trump on Monday again slammed the media.

President Trump on Monday blasted reports that he and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently discussed ending military drills. "The military drills, or war games as I call them, were never even discussed in my mtg w/ Kim Jong Un of NK—FAKE NEWS!" Trump wrote in a tweet. "I made that decision long ago because it costs the U.S. far too much money to have those 'games,' especially since we are not reimbursed for the tremendous cost!"  Those drills involved military personnel from the US and South Korea and were intended to ensure readiness should the two forces ever have to fight side-by-side to ward off a common enemy.  North Korea had long objected to them, asserting that the exercises compromised its security. Vox reports that the US and South Korea announced in a statement released on Saturday that "both sides decided to conclude" two key joint military exercises, raising speculation that they were ended as a concession to Kim.
