Shocker from Bihar: Five Dalits gang-raped
  • 5 years ago
Angry villagers shut shops, blocked roads and held protest rallies in Bihar after five Dalit girls were allegedly gang-raped by influential upper caste men, in an incident which has triggered tension in the area.

The girls who aged between 16 and 23 were first made to drink liquor before being raped at gunpoint, police said.

The incident took place at Kurmuri village in Bhojpur district, some 60km west of the Bihar capital of Patna, on Wednesday night but was reported to the police late on Thursday evening.

The police have arrested two of the three accused so far while raids were underway to find the main accused Nilnidhi Singh who, according to police, is a former areas commander of Ranvir Sena, a private army of upper caste landlords blamed for scores of massacres in the later part of 1990s and early 2000.
