Government introduces bills to scrap collegium system in Lok Sabha

Hours after Chief Justice of India RM Lodha provided a strident defence of the collegium system on Monday, an unfazed government introduced two bills in Lok Sabha for changing the scheme for recruitment of judges and assigning the job to a commission for judicial appointments.
Even as political and judicial circles discussed Justice Lodha's strong protest against the attack on collegium system, law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad introduced the National Judicial Appointments Commission Bill, 2014 which will scrap the collegium system and bring transparency in the process of appointing judges.
