More than 90 ex-MPs and 22 former Union ministers want an extension

Centre hopes to accommodate reasonable MPs before the Budget Session

With less than a week left for former MPs to vacate their plush bungalows in Lutyens' Delhi, accommodation crisis for newly-elected MPs seems to be lingering on. Over 315 new faces in Parliament are awaiting official accommodation.

Former MPs and Cabinet ministers have been trying to seek more time to vacate their official bungalows in New Delhi. June 26 is the last date to vacate these bungalows and flats. But these leaders are putting pressure on the Central government by using their contacts and most of them are citing ill health as the main reason for extension of their stay, according to a source in the urban development ministry.

Meanwhile, the list of MPs overstaying in their government-allotted accommodation includes big names like Dayanidhi Maran, A. Raja, Mukul Roy and C.P. Joshi.
