Narendra Modi lends weight to anti-EC pitch in Bengal
  • 5 years ago
Resonating the strong pitch in Bengal against the Election Commission (EC) for failing to curb the 'rigging and booth capture' during the third phase of poll on April 30, BJP's prime ministerial aspirant Narendra Modi on Sunday "cautioned" that polls would be rigged again and there would be poll-related violence and intimidation during the last two phases.

"The EC couldn't ensure free-and-fair polls. It is the duty of the EC to do so. It has enough powers, so why is it not exercising them? If the EC doesn't like what I'm saying, it is free to slap charges against me. But that won't stop me from speaking the truth. Regardless of who or which party nominated the Commission's bosses, they have to do their duty," he said, adding that the next two phases on May 7 and May 12 of polling could also witness violence and rigging and the EC has to prevent that.
