Narendra Modi was a contractor not a tea vendor- Ahmed Patel
  • 5 years ago
Congress president Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel has questioned BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's publicised beginnings as a "tea vendor", and said he has information that he never sold tea.
Patel told a public gathering at the party headquarters here on Saturday, "Some chai wala (tea vendor) came to me and said Modi was a canteen contractor, not a tea-vendor." He added that it was not good to exploit this "chai wala" image for elections.
Patel also questioned the source of money for Modi's political rallies across the country even as Congress legislature party leader Shankarsinh Vaghela alleged that corporates were financing Modi's political rallies, each of which cost between Rs 25 to Rs 30 crore. He said, "Some industrialists told me that they were asked by Modi to name him as prime ministerial candidate and they obliged him because he favoured them by providing facilities."
He also asked people not to judge Gujarat on the basis of Modi's Twitter messages because the real situation in the state is completely different.
