In a bid to fulfil its poll promise, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Wednesday cleared a proposal which provides 50% rebate and waives penalty dues on electricity bills for consumers who were part of Arvind Kejriwal's 'Bijli-Paani Andolan' last year.

The campaign was launched against inflated power and water bills in Delhi. All those who did not pay power bills between October 2012 and April 2013 are being considered for the relief scheme.

The proposal was cleared at a cabinet meeting chaired by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday.

According to a government spokesperson, around 24,000 such power consumers who will get the subsidy have been identified. It will cost the government Rs. 6 crore to provide relief to the citizens.
