Police is on the lookout for an eighth man in the West Bengal gang-rape of two women at a village in Amta under Howrah district recently.

The eighth man, identified as an alleged Trinamool functionary, had led the attackers even as the opposition Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) said the rapes were an organized attack by the ruling Trinamool Congress group as political vendetta.

While seven people were arrested already, the eighth person named in the FIR is Barun Makal, who is absconding.

Media reports said he is an election agent of a Trinamool MLA and had led the attacks.

CPI-M leader Mohammad Selim said: "This is a horrific case since men folk of the village were first forced to flee the village first. It was a organized gang-rape. Trinamool leaders are involved. What is happening in the name of change? "

Tension prevailed at Amta area after the two women belonging to the same family were allegedly gang-raped by eight men on Tuesday.
