India turns 64, Republic Day celebration - NewsX

India is celebrating its 65th Republic Day on Sunday. The day will be marked by a colourful parade that will start at the Rajpath and culminate at the historic Red Fort, showcasing India's cultural diversity and military might.

President Pranab Mukherjee unfurled the tricolour. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is the chief guest at today's colourful Republic Day parade, which will be witnessed by President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and a host of other political leaders and dignitaries at the Rajpath near India Gate.

President Mukherjee will first unfurl the tricolour and then take the salute of marching contingents.



A multi-layer security blanket has been thrown around the capital with thousands of armed personnel set to keep a tight vigil to thwart any possible terror strike or any untoward incident during the Republic Day celebrations.

SWAT teams of Delhi Police, anti-aircraft guns and sharpshooters of National Security Guard have been deployed at various places while paramilitary and Delhi Police commandos will keep a close watch along the Republic Day parade route.
