Serious questions are being asked of BJP prime ministerial candidate and his approach to what is being described as unchecked abuse of authority by his closest aide in his alleged attempt at violating the privacy of an unsuspecting woman in Gujarat.

The BJP has not challenged the authenticity of the tape recording which exposed this happenstance with any real measure of seriousness and not has it distanced Modi from the damaging fallout. Instead the party has fallen back on her father's statement saying her daddy made the Gujarat government allegedly employ the state machinery to snoop on her daughter. There are three problematic implications:

That the Gujarat government assumes that the power of the state can be put at the disposal of just about any private entity. Second that if a private citizen so demands the surveillance the state will swing in and employ its machinery to snoop on another individual no questions asked. Third that the state will snoop on women if another man, be it her father or family member, demands it.
