News X: Congress led UPA-II Government set to get the Food Bill Passed

The Govt is planning to get the Food Security Bill passed today. The government is open to amendments in the Food Security Bill, which it hopes the Lok Sabha will pass. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting with his ministerial colleagues as part of preparations for a last-ditch effort to get the legislation passed. The govt claims that the food bill will provide cheap grain to nearly two thirds of the population.

Congress's negotiations with the Samajwadi Party also raised hopes in the government that the SP would not vote against the food security bill. The govt has also said that it is open to all workable amendments.Regardless of what happens in Parliament, the Congress government of Delhi and Haryana will launch the scheme today to coincide with former PM Rajiv Gandhi's birth anniversary.
