AAP to move EC for BJP MLA's disqualification on fake SC certificate

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will move the Election Commission next week to seek disqualification of a BJP MLA in Delhi, Mr Ranjit Singh for having cheated the election authorities and the people by having produced a fake Scheduled Caste certificate to contest the polls. Mr Singh used a fake SC certificate to contest the 2013 Delhi assembly election from Gokulpur (reserved) constituency in North East Delhi.

A Delhi court on Wednesday directed the Police to lodge an FIR and furnish its copy within two days, after a probe report presented to the court showed that Mr Singh, originally a resident of Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh), had procured a fake certificate. Though criminal proceedings have been initiated against this MLA who committed a fraud on the people and played with the emotions of the electorate, the AAP is of the clear view that such an individual can no longer be a member of the assembly.

The party has decided to move the EC under the relevant provisions of the Representation of the People Act, after having perused the relevant documents, from which a clear case of disqualification is made out. According to the AAP, it is not only a clear and proven case of concealment of facts before the election authorities, but a case of forgery and cheating is also made out against this MLA.

The issue raises serious questions about the kind of politics in which the BJP is indulging. What is the BJP stand on the issue ? Will it take action against its MLA who has breached all levels of political decency and has committed a fraud on the weaker sections of the society ?

The people of the constituency have decided to oppose the continuation of this MLA and have informed they will be organizing peaceful protests.

This is not the only case which exposes the BJP, which has been using the President’s rule to keep an indirect control over Delhi, so that the acts of omission and commission of its leaders can be brushed under the carpet. Last month, its MLA from Rajinder Nagar, RP Singh had beaten up a junior engineer of the Delhi Jal Board, who had refused to carry out his illegal orders of awarding a water pipes contract to a BJP worker in violation of the rules.

The Delhi Police has not proceeded in the case despite a written complaint by the DJB, which clearly shows that the police is being pressurized to act in a partisan manner.
