UP: Khap panchayat bans jeans for girls - NewsX

Another diktat by a Khap in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh has come as a shocker. The Khap in Shamli village has ruled that no girl can be allowed to wear denim jeans and tops. It has also warned that if any girl dares to defy the diktat, the family should gear up to get ostracised by the locals. Women, especially girls being singled out for discriminatory treatment by village councils is not a new phenomenon in Uttar Pradesh. But they seem to be getting more and more brazen by the day.
