Missing children on the rise in India - NewsX

Every day more than thousands of children are reported missing in India. Some just run away from home but most are believed to be abducted by beggar mafias, pimps and prostitution dons and child molesters. While the National Crime Records Bureau says 17,000 children are missing in India, a new RTI filed by the Bachpan Bachao Andolan reveals that the real number of missing children for just 2008-to-2010 was a staggering 1,17,000 more than ten times the current official figure. Families of the missing say the main reason for these huge numbers and inconsistencies is that the police are loathe to file FIRs on missing children often leaving them no option but to mourn the loss of their loved ones.
