The BRICS summit starts today, with the leaders of five emerging economies all set to unveil a blueprint that will further their economic clout. Yesterday prime minister accorded a rousing welcome to the leaders of the constituent nations - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa . Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will meet Chinese President Hu Jintao today. The meeting will flag off a year-long celebration of friendship and cooperation in economic and cultural fields. But the meeting is taking place in the shadow of protests by Tibetans for an independent homeland. India has tried to clamp down on these shows of dissent.
