India News : Heavy rain that began on Thursday continued to lash Gujarat on Saturday, prompting authorities to sound high alert in Bharuch and Vadodara where downpour has paralysed normal life.

With the state already receiving 78 per cent of its 798 mm monsoon rain so far, officials of the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authorities (GDMA) denied any evacuation in the low-lying areas of Bharuch though unofficial reports said 1,700 people have been removed from Bharuch and 11 villages near the Kadana dam. Surat city recorded a little above 91 mm of rain, as local rivers in south Gujarat are rising due to discharged water from the Ukai dam.
