India News: BJP alleges Rs. 1,000 cr scam in transport dept

India News: A city court that allowed Anil Chhikara—prime witness in the multi-crore commercial vehicle fitness paper scam in Delhi government's transport department to record a statement under section 164 of CrPC (before a magistrate) recalled its order three days later, after it was contested by Delhi government's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
According to the FIR registered in the case, the government's transport department is accused of giving undue favours to a private company. It is also alleged that the company after winning the contract for giving "fitness certificates" to vehicles at the Burari authority, cheated people by charging them for tests which were never conducted due to unavailability of the equipment.
Former Delhi BJP president Dr Harshvardhan has demanded CBI inquiry into the CNG testing scam which the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is currently investigating. The BJP leader said the ACB investigation into the alleged scam does not inspire confidence, with possibility of senior Congress ministers' complicity in it.
While he refrained from commenting on the scam details which is sub-judice, the BJP leader said, "I have facts brought out by citizens under the Right to Information Act. The information points to complicity of senior ministers of Sheila Dikshit government in the scam."
"It is my moderate estimate that the scam is to the tune of Rs 1,000 crore. The money was looted from the bus owners in the name of CNG testing, and fitness certificates were issued. But, despite confessions of the four arrested persons, the ACB is afraid of carrying out raids to seize money or freeze bank accounts of suspected ministers and bureaucrats," he added.
