Ayman al Zawahiri to succeed Osama as Al-Qaeda chief

Ayman al-Zawahiri has been formally appointed as new Al-Qaeda chief, following the killing of Osama bin Laden six weeks ago. The Egyptian-born surgeon was considered the ideological brains behind Al-Qaeda and allegedly helped plan the 9/11 attacks. He was Bin Laden's mentor and physician for several years.
