Beijing’s new Daxing International Airport has welcomed its first test flight after four years of construction. The first landing on January 22, 2019, will be followed by more tests over the next two months to assess all seven runways and air-traffic control systems at the facility. Construction of the huge infrastructure project started in December 2014. The airport is scheduled to open on September 30, 2019, and when fully operational will be able to handle 100 million passengers per year.
