Leaves 13 People Dead Authorities say the casualties were drivers sliding off of roadways in multiple states. Gia, which ran from the Midwest to the east coast, is said to be responsible for at least 500 car crashes. In Missouri, the storm closed down many highway lanes, leaving hundreds of drivers stranded for hours. Gia has also left hundreds of thousands in the U.S. without power and caused 700 flights around the Washington DC area to be canceled. Gia's impact also led to states of emergencies being called in Virginia and North Carolina.
