Contradicting Trump, Jimmy Carter Says He 'Does Not Support' Trump On Border Wall Plan
  • 5 years ago
Jimmy Carter on Monday issued a statement in the wake of President Trump's recent remark.

Former President Jimmy Carter on Monday issued a statement after President Trump remarked about past presidents' support for a wall along the US-Mexico border.  Carter said in a tweet shared by the Carter Center: "I have not discussed the border wall with President Trump, and do not support him on the issue."  That statement follows Trump's Friday assertion that the building of a wall "should have been done by all of the Presidents that preceded me. And they all know it. Some of them have told me that we should have done it."  Notably, spokespeople for both former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush recently told reporters that no such discussions had taken place.
Barack Obama, the only other surviving president, has made his opposition to the wall well known.
