Trump Takes Credit For 'Saving' Coast Guard Pay During Shutdown

President Trump on Sunday again went after Democrats on Twitter over the partial government shutdown.

President Trump has taken credit for securing an extra payment to members of the U.S. Coast Guard amid the partial government shutdown.
He tweeted Sunday: "Great work by my Administration over the holidays to save Coast Guard pay during this #SchumerShutdown."
The president then took a jab at Democrats whose refusal to give in to his border wall funding demands contributed to the shutdown.
Trump added: "No thanks to the Democrats who left town and are not concerned about the safety and security of Americans!"
The payment was announced on an official blog for Coast Guard personnel in a post stating, "The Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Coast Guard have identified a way to pay our military workforce on Dec. 31, 2018."
However, the post calls it a "one-time action" and says it "does not guarantee a paycheck on Jan. 15, 2019."
Trump may, in fact, have played a major role in the end-of-year payment. According to the Washington Examiner, "[He] personally urged his team to find a solution that would allow the administration to make this week's $75 million payroll, according to officials."
Unlike other branches of the U.S. military, the U.S. Coast Guard is subject to a pay freeze under the government shutdown because it is funded by Homeland Security, not the Defense Department which has its own budget already in place.
