Hong Kong’s land reclamation controversy

Hong Kong’s chief executive Carrie Lam has unveiled a 1,700-hectare reclamation blueprint off Lantau to ease the city’s long-standing housing problem. The government plans to build several artificial islands to the east of the city’s biggest island around Kau Yi Chau and Hei Ling Chau. However, the initiative now faces public backlash over environmental impact, lack of consultation and cost.
