Study Says 20% of US Adults Experience
Chronic Pain The findings are from a new study by the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC estimates that in 2016, 20.4% of adults had chronic pain. The study states that living in poverty or rural areas increases the odds of suffering from chronic pain. This is more specifically defined as pain on most days or everyday in the past
six months. For that same year, 8% of adults reported also had high-impact chronic pain. For both categories, findings showed prevalence was higher for women, older adults and previously but not currently employed adults. The same went for adults living in poverty, adults with public health insurance and rural residents.
