Ahead of Muharram, WB CM Mamata Banerjee appeal muslims not to brandish swords

In a changed re-run of last year when WB CM Mamata Banergee's order to not allow durga idol immersion on the day of muhharam to avoid clashes - this time the WB chief minister has made an appeal to the muslims asking them to refrain from brandishing swords and lathis during Tazia processions on the occasion. Party MPs Idris Ali and AH Imran on Wednesday met leaders of the minority community in Kolkata and made an appeal to mark the occasion in a manner that does not "hurt" sentiments of any other community. The govt says it's a bid to to maintain "public peace and safety" but political opponents are now saying that this is Mamata Banerjee's bid to appeal to the majority Hindus as the BJP has started making huge inroads in the state months ahead of the lok sabha polls.
