Fast-moving Delta Fire shuts down Northern California interstate

A new fire broke out in Northern California's Shasta County on September 6, forcing immediate evacuations and closing down a busy interstate.

According to local media, the blaze, dubbed the Delta Fire, was reported just before 1 pm and attended to by over 600 personnel. Burning dangerously close to Interstate 5, several drivers were asked to leave their vehicles as the fire continued to spread. Authorities shut lanes on both sides of the freeway.

This video, filmed on Gibson Road in Lakehead, Shasta County, shows the heavy smoke over the interstate.

The fire’s quick growth was fueled partly by warm weather, low humidity and strong wind gusts. As of Wednesday night, the fire stood at around 2000 acres with no containment.
