Trump, Citing Michael Cohen's Attorney, Insists He 'Did Not Know' About Trump Tower Meeting

President Trump on Saturday insisted he "did not know" about the Trump Tower meeting.
President Trump has referenced the lawyer for his former attorney and "fixer" Michael Cohen to reassert that he had no advance knowledge of the meeting his son and other campaign officials had with a Russian lawyer at Trump Tower in 2016.
Trump tweeted Saturday morning: "Michaels [sic] Cohen's attorney clarified the record, saying his client does not know if President Trump knew about the Trump Tower meeting (out of which came nothing!). The answer is that I did NOT know about the meeting. Just another phony story by the Fake News Media!"
The president may have been referring to a recent New York Post story which said that Cohen's attorney Lanny Davis had backtracked after previously confirming as an anonymous source that his client was prepared to testify about Trump's advanced knowledge of the meeting, per CNN.
The Post report states, "But Thursday, Davis, speaking on the record, apologized for confirming something he did not know to be true."
It goes on to quote Davis as saying, "I should have been more clear. I could not independently confirm the information in the CNN story. I'm sorry that I left that impression. I wasn't at the meeting. The only person who could confirm that information is my client."
However, Davis indicated in a CNN interview Thursday that proof of Trump's advanced knowledge was that Cohen was "present during a discussion with [Don] Jr. and dad."
For their parts, the president and his son, Donald Trump Jr., have both maintained that the meeting to get dirt on Hillary Clinton was conducted without informing the then-candidate.
