India bids goodbye to ex-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee; PM Modi, Shah join final journey

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was laid to rest with full state honours at the Smriti Sthal yesterday evening. His daughter Namita lit the funeral pyre while a 21 gun-salute was accorded to the statesman, who served over 4 decades in politics. Thousands joined the funeral procession as it proceeded from the BJP headquarters to the cremation ground. PM Modi, Amit Shah too joined the swelling crowd. Several foreign dignitaries attended the funeral, including the King of Bhutan and the former President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai. Vajpayee's contribution to Indian politics is unforgettable; he was a monumental personality immortalised in his words and his ideals. He had an illustrious career until he left politics after he had a heart attack in 2009. The Centre has declared a 7 day mourning in honour of this great leaders' demise.
