Vehicles Venture Over Bridge Threatened by Swollen Muthirapuzha River in Munnar, Later Impassable

Heavy rainfall over the state of Kerala, India, caused major swells in the Muthirapuzha River in Munnar. Video shot on August 14 shows vehicles crossing a one-lane bridge before it was taken over by the river.News reports said that at least 97 people have been killed in the widespread flooding. The chief minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, announced that Kochi International Airport, which was heavily flooded, would be closed until August 18. He also said on August 15 that a red alert was issued across all 14 districts of Kerala and that the Mullaperiyar Dam had reached unsafe levels, and water would be released.The second video shows the Muthirapuzha River bridge overtaken by the floodwaters and rendered impassable.
