At least two people died and more than 150,000 people were ordered to evacuate in Kyoto and Osaka prefectures on Thursday, July 5, due to increasing risks of floods and mudslides as heavy rain continued to batter western Japan.The Japan Meteorological Agency called the rainfall “historic” and warned the torrential rain may continue through Sunday, July 8, in the Kansai region, which includes Kyoto, Hyogo and Osaka prefectures, causing more river flooding and landslides.A bridge across the Katsura River and the riverside promenade of the Kamo River, both famous tourist spots in Kyoto, were closed because of the swollen waters.The video, which shows the high water level at the Katsura River, was shared online on Friday morning, July 6.Typhoon Prapiroon entered the Sea of Japan this week before downgraded to an extra-tropical cyclone.
