California Police Race to Evacuate SPCA Animals as Wildfire Nears

Police in Vacaville, California, were in a race against time on August 11 when it looked like an SPCA building would be hit by an approaching wildfire. Along with staff and volunteers, officers worked to evacuate 60 cats and dogs from the building.Bodycam footage released by police shows the rescue operation as the Nelson Fire looms. All animals in the building were saved and placed in foster homes, the police said.Cal Fire said that by August 12, the Nelson Fire was 100 percent contained, having reached 2,162 acres.The Solana SPCA said there was smoke damage to its building and that it was without power and water for a period.
