More Evacuations Ordered Near West Mims Wildfire

The West Mims Wildfire inside the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge stood at 133,744 acres and was 12 percent contained on Monday, May 8, as more evacuation orders were issued in in Saint George, Georgia.About 74 people were evacuated when the first mandatory orders were issued on Saturday, but it remains unclear how many more people were under evacuation orders on Monday, according to a report.More than 600 firefighters – along with tanker planes and helicopters – are battling the wildfire, which sparked on April 6. Officials believe the fire was triggered by a lightning strike.
