China might be revamping its new two-child policy in favour of a three-child policy, as a stamp released by the government sparked rumours. The stamp of a happy family with two pigs and three piglets was unveiled as ‘Year of the Pig’ stamp for 2019. In 2016, China released a ‘Year of the Monkey’ stamp showing two baby monkeys post which the one-child policy was abolished. China has been faced with a looming crisis of an ageing population. The Old Dependency Ratio, which shows how many elderly people depend on the working population, was at 7 per 100 in 1960 rising to 15 per 100 in 2017.
